We're turning three & it feels so good...
2010 Begins With Bold Moves & A New Face
The Eco Investment Club is no stranger to trying new things, however the management is determined to grow the San Diego based membership beyond it's current member numbers.

So under the leadership of CEO, Yeves Perez, the Club has planned to enter into a new marketing campaign (Campaign name will remain undisclosed until its launch) that will target the local Health and Fitness consumer markets.

"Our objective will be to support this large community and sponsor as many activities as we can this year... The fact is that 'going green' and 'going to the gym' go hand in hand. And the Eco Investment Club's goal and every sports club goal are the same for it's members: It's all about the Return on Investment," say Perez. This campaign will focus on opportunities to "invest" in lifestyle in order become healthier and equally more productive. The club already has tons of members that are very active in the health and fitness industry and or lead very active lifestyles, so it is imperative to not only provide lifestyle support for members, but to also maintain ongoing education about general health and wellness for non-members, too. The Club will build an impressive reputation as a leader in the San Diego fitness community by using a strong Return On Investment message as it has with another type of athlete, "investors", and dramatically improve the mental, physical and spiritual, and financial health of an entire community.

"Being healthy today is a valuable asset to every families bottom line," says Perez. "We will custom campaign around the needs and offer different options of education based on desired participation. By creating such a campaign, we'll be the first major Green brand with a non-athletic, nutritional product or service to combine two major target markets with one message. San Diego is a leader already as consumers aren't only investing in the physical wellness, safety, and mental health of their temple, they are also taking preventive measures by creating a healthier environment. And, the club wants these healthy leaders in our membership and expand our network dramatically.

Then on February, 25th, 2010,  at the club's first regular meeting of the year, Perez made a special announcement to support the campaign's development by introducing the New Face of the Club, Kristianne Watts.

Kristianne Faith Watts (born January 6, 1983 - Santa Barbara, CA) is an environmental interior designer, furniture designer, fashion model, active runner, writer, and sustainable businesswoman, most notable for her classic stylizing approach. An approach that accentuates her signature blend of industrial, architectural design with her taste in innovative products from materials to green technology. And, whether she decides to go "raw", "fresh", "bold" or "elemental", this green ‘maven’ delivers the same result: a functional envelope where the clientele is left awe inspired.

Always displaying style and grace, this talented entrepreneur has always stayed ahead of the curve in her area of expertise. Kristianne Watts, attended Samford University Department of Interior Design, received her Bachelor of Arts, and has thus gone on to launch the private practice that bares her name and purpose, kw Designs (2007). Determined to take her career to the next level, Kristi was led back to the shores of Southern California, discovering her niche for Green building in San Diego, and now specializing in exquisite interior design services for new construction and remodels as a LEED Accredited Professional.

With projects spanning coastal communities such as Del Mar and La Jolla as well as the newly minted office interiors for San Diego first-mover incubator, EcoHub, the KW brand has already begun to transcend most objections towards sustainability. Focused on "sleek and sexy" finishes, Kristi's creative spark recently placed her ahead of other industry experts as she's challenged furniture fabricators to adopt her stunning usage of materials such as Kirei, wheatboard, salvaged architectural posts, and recycled aluminum into palatable works of reclaimed office furnishings. Thus, escalating her to the region's most recognizable brand for custom looks that balances style and function of the interiors with innovative building strategies and eco-friendly materials that will help to preserve our environment. An accomplishment which has yielded her a top honoree in SDNN's "The Green 35 Under 35" entrepreneurs list (2010) and she's currently nominated for a green award from the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO San Diego chapter).

Kristi is also an sought after face in the fashion modeling scene, including television, runway, editorial spreads for publications such as 944, gracing the cover of Competitor Magazine, and working with San Diego Model Management. So, as of February 2010, Eco Investment Network International, Inc. (EINI) acquired the designer phenom as the company's spokesperson, host, brand ambassador for the Eco Investment Club and EcoHub, which takes claim of the first green company to do so.

"Kristi is a natural talent, she owns her own business, very athletic as a spin-aholic, and a rising star in our community... there is no doubt in my mind that our new spokes model will propel us and double or triple of membership base," says Perez.

IN OTHER NEWS

NPR REPORTS State Survey: California Has 500,000 Green Jobs
Despite all the talk about California’s green economy, there’s never really been a decent measurement of how many green jobs the state has – until now. There's a new state survey out ahead of Earth Day this Thursday.

By: Ben Adler, Mon Apr 19, 2010

(Sacramento, CA) The state’s half a million green jobs represent about 3.8 percent of its total workforce. That’s just ahead of Oregon, Washington and Michigan, which all conducted similar studies. Bonnie Graybill with the state’s Employment Development Department led the research.

Graybill: “The most employment – and this is very interesting – the industry with the most employment in green jobs is manufacturing.”

Remarkable, Graybill says, because of the broad perception of the industry’s decline in recent years. Coming in second – and also interesting to Graybill – construction, despite the poor housing market.

Graybill: “There’s a big push towards weatherization and making buildings more energy efficient, even though maybe new buildings aren’t being built.”

The findings come from a representative sample of California businesses across all sizes, industries and parts of the state.

Message From The Founder: Good Advise Should Not Be Ignored

Once in a while a stranger will look-out for you and tell you, “your shoe laces are untied”, “be careful” before you drop something, or “watch out” before step into a crosswalk... It’s not that you’re not careful or irresponsible, but it’s a sign that good people are out there and they care. And since this April is the mark of our Three Year Anniversary, I want to tell you a story of a friend who warned me about something very important and I feel compelled to pass the warning on to you.

Through our Chairman, Bob Noble, I’ve come to meet some of the smartest people in Sustainability. And a few years ago, I met Charles Angyal, who was also literally there when Gottfried and Italiano held numerous informal meetings with a core group of like-minded professionals that led to the incorporation the U.S. Green Building Council.

So back in February of 2009, Charles took my phone call to talk about his plans for the future, when out of left field he asked me plans for the Club. I told him I wanted to show films in 2009 and he gave me a warning: “You Should Show This Movie To Your Club... You Really Need To Pay Attention To This! Its called I.O.U.S.A.” Charles even sent me and email that day with the link: http://www.iousathemovie.com. The documentary was a warning about the National debt and I didn’t watch the whole film because many of the warnings went right over my head...

Then over a recent weekend (now one year later), I was watching CNN and they were running a finance special called “ I.O.U.S.A. Solutions” and the CNN network was airing the film! Of course, now it was important to me because CNN said so. And what I learned were some of the same messages that other smart people were saying all last year --- “that the economy is not coming back”, “that consumers are not going to spend again like they did before”, and “that the American dream will have to change or be modified for the next generation.”

I thought about it more and I’m really OK with living with less and living within my means, however when starting a business... you do want to do what’s needed to be legitimate, i.e., office space, equipment, employees, etc. And, anyone who really knows me, knows that I will also advocate for people to join the revolution with a business of their own. But, sometimes you need to lead by example and saving money takes discipline.

So, I'm excited to announce that we've launched a new venture called “EcoHub”  to do just that ---- SAVE MONEY! The Eco Investment Club is saving money by being headquartered here and we're excited to have a new mailing address, 4542 Ruffner Street, Suite 170, San Diego, CA. 92111.

This helps start-up businesses reach their potential and accelerate their growth.  By providing an affordable shared space via a membership system, entrepreneurs can not only take their dreams to the next level, but be surrounded by like-minded individuals.  We believe there is a tremendous value in the synergies that can be created by getting people together in a collaborative environment. By sharing a common vision, purpose and even resources may lead to a new model of doing business in these most challenging of times.

In addition, our real estate partners at Square One Development support our vision to potential transform our location into a green corporate campus.  This relationship and available infrastructure allows us to accommodate our member companies’ growth and expansion needs.  As companies “graduate” out of our shared innovation space, they can remain within our two building campus.  This will allow them to continue to participate in the collaborative atmosphere, events and educational opportunities. We have a number of companies already participating and currently accepting applications for new members. EcoHub will also provide The Eco Investment Club not only a new permanent home, but is the logical next step for the evolution of our operations as one of EcoHub’s first members and a key strategic partner. Bob Noble,Chairman and CEO of Envision Solar and EcoHub’s first member company to relocate explained his desire to be part of this new venture, “We wanted to be in a space where the building owners not only understood our mission but wanted to be part of it.  Being surrounded by like minded-professionals opens up new avenues for collaboration and partnership”.

EcoHub’s shared innovation space even looks different than a typical office, with a bold design and custom furniture created by LEED AP and Club spokes model, Kristianne Watts of KW Designs. Members will enjoy the full use of all professional amenities including a lush landscaped courtyard, all at a very affordable price. Centrally located at 4542 Ruffner St. off Balboa at I-805, EcoHub is poised to become the center of the fast-growing green business community. I would welcome an opportunity to share more of the details with you and the collaborative community EcoHub is poised to become. But I also promised to pass on a warning... Pay Attention To Those Who Are Looking Out For You Because You Never Know What Changes What Changes You Need To Make On Your Own!! The I. O. U. S. A. filmmakers told the viewers to warn the younger generations to stay out of debt and save your money, now!

Sounds good to me.

Our story is simple. We had an idea that turned into a vision, that turned into an amazing "network", and today, a recognizable brand name.

We never started the organization to receive  prestigious recognition, but over the years we've had many people try to describe us... and in 2009, the Club earned this quote: "The Eco Investment Club is one of the greatest --- probably one of the most influential environmental organizations in San Diego and that's why we are here" - Shad Balch, General Motors. The Chevy Volt made its debut appearance in San Diego on Nov. 20th 2009 at the Eco Investment Club. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N82JyAMkU9k

Now, join us April 22nd, as we invite a panel of members and "friends of the founders" to come out and Roast Yeves Perez and Bob Noble on everything from bad habits, to work ethics, to funny gestures and sayings that only Yeves and Bob can do!

We'll have special guest speakers, local Sustainability leaders, and media friends joining us as well.
